The Inland Northwest Center for Writers and Get Lit! Programs, in cooperation with Gonzaga University, are pleased to announce to upcoming author events. Visiting author David Shields will be conducting a Q&A session and a reading on Friday, November 30th.

David Shields is the author of thirteen books, including Reality Hunger: A Manifesto (2010) and the NY Times bestseller The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead (2008). His most recent publication is Fakes (2012), a collection of short fiction in the form of itineraries, instruction manuals, forwarded emails, and other seemingly mundane artifacts, written by today's best writers and compiled and edited by David Shields and Matthew Vollmer.

Shann Ray Reading at Gonzaga University

Local author Shann Ray will be reading at Gonzaga tonight at 7:30 p.m. Ray will also be reading during this year's Get Lit! Festival at the Pie & Whiskey event on April 12, and he'll be participating in HooPalousa on April 9.

Ray's collection American Masculine was named by Esquire as one of Three Books Every Man Should Read. It has won the Best Book of 2011, Best Short Story Collection of 2011, Editor's Choice from Kirkus Reviews, along with the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference Bakeless Prize. American Masculine has been called a book of "grace" and "astonishing power," "prophetic," "lyrical," and "fiercely written," forming a "true and pure depiction of sorrow and primer for forgiveness."

Robert Pinsky Q&A and discussion at Gonzaga and SFCC

Robert Pinsky was the U.S. Poet Laureate for two years and because he was so loved he was asked to continue for a third. His awards include the William Carlos Williams Award, the Ambassador Book Award, being nominated for the 1996 Pulitzer Prize, as well as others. He is currently the poetry editor for Slate, an online magazine.

He is the founder of the Favorite Poem Project, which allowed thousands of Americans to share their favorite works of poetry. The website explains, "During the one year open call for submissions, 18,000 Americans wrote to the project volunteering to share their favorite poems — Americans from ages 5 to 97, from every state, of diverse occupations, kinds of education and backgrounds."

His works include Sadness and Happiness (1975), Dying (1984), Jersey Rain (2000), and Gulf Music: Poems (2007), among others. He is well known for not only his poetry but also his translations, specifically his best-selling translation of Dante's Inferno.

Junot Diaz reading at Gonzaga University TONIGHT!

Junot Diaz will be reading from his book, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, at Gonzaga University tonight!

His book follows the life of Oscar de Leon, an overweight Dominican boy who is obsessed with science fiction, fantasy novels, falling in love, and a curse that has followed his family while growing up in New Jersey.

Junot Diaz has won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the John Sargent Sr. First Novel Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

Diaz will be signing books after the reading. Don't miss out!

Jennifer Egan Reading

The Gonzaga University Writing Series presents award-winning writer Jennifer Egan. She is the author of The Invisible Circus, a novel which became a feature film staring Cameron Diaz in 2001, Look at Me, a finalist for the National Book Award in fiction. Her short stories have been published in magazines including The New Yorker, Harpers, Granta, and McSweeney’s, and her nonfiction articles appear frequently in the New York Times Magazine.

Egan will be reading from her national bestseller A Visit from the Goon Squad, winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and the LA Times Book Prize.
