Gregory Spatz

Professor, musician and award-winning author Gregory Spatz will discuss his forthcoming book, Inukshuk, on May 25th at Auntie’s Bookstore. The upcoming historical novel chronicles the trials of an adolescent boy who moves to a Northern Canadian town with his father after the sudden disappearance of his mother.

Janet Fitch, author of the book White Oleander calls Spatz’s literary style “…clean and sparkling as a new fall of snow,” and author Doug Dorst says,  “Inukshuk is a feat of empathy and honesty, a taut tale of fear and resentment and other threats from within, meticulously observed and fearlessly rendered in vivid, authoritative, gripping prose. It’s a virtuoso performance.”

Gregory Spatz currently serves as Associate Professor at Eastern Washington University and is the fiddler for the bluegrass band, John Reichsman and the Jaybirds. In addition, he is the author of Fiddler’s Dream, No One But Us, and Wonderful Tricks. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Iowa Arts Fellowship, the Michener Fellowship, and a Washington State Book Award. In addition, his bluegrass band was nominated for a Juno Award in 2008.

The reading will be held Friday May 25th at 7:00 p.m at Auntie’s Bookstore in downtown Spokane.
